So, my man is obsessed with the Game of Thrones. Most guys are, naturally. They are thrilled with the violence scenes, the powerful lines and basically, everything about this book - TV series. Oh, and, coming soon, video game. Of course.

Being a Lord of the Rings fan, I just cannot persuade myself to actually like the Game of Thrones. Not enough to make a piece of jewelry, at least. It would just be 'going with the flow' for me. You know, not an honest thing to do. I made a Game of Thrones bookmark for my guy, because he asked nicely (!), and that's as far as I want to get.

But there's nothing stopping me or you from admiring other people's work on Etsy, that is inspired by the Game of Thrones. I think their work is brilliant!

Yesterday's Walk

OK. So while the weather outside is frightful, I am posting some photos from the walk I went for yesterday, when it was sunny...

I visited a friend who lives in Pyrgos, and, during our walk, I was lucky to get a few shots of the lovely building known as the Old Market, a work built in 1890 and supervised by the famous Ernst Ziller, that today is the town's archaeological museum.

I look at the photos and I feel calm, honestly... I don't know how architecture can do that.

Akira Mushi consists of two Greek designers, Anna Petridou and Olga Paparidou, who decided to work together and create a fresh label using their dogs' names, Akira and Mushi, instead of their own surnames, like what other designer duos normally do!

Akira and Mushi believe in simplicity, comfort and quirkiness. The sizes of the clothes are limited, as the clothes are designed in such a way to fit most body figures. Usually, most of the designs in each collection have the ability to be worn in various ways, giving the wearer the chance to enjoy the item of clothing to the fullest.

This is a New Year's Eve carol from Crete, and it is sung when the family has one or more members away in foreign lands... I was really moved by this version, it is so Byzantine and majestic, plus it made me think of my friends and family who are away.

As we draw closer to the very end of 2011, I have one wish for 2012: That the new year will be more hopeful than the one we are leaving behind... Happy 2012 everyone!

Interview with Artists I Admire: Jim Tsinganos

I discovered Jim Tsinganos on Etsy a long time ago, but I was able to interview him just now. I'll be honest: His name was the first thing that drew me to his Etsy shop, because a. It is similar to 'gypsy' in Greek, and b. Ι have only heard of it in an area not far from where I live. Little did I know, when I clicked on that shop link, that he has won numerous awards, and that his art would win my mind and heart. So the name became an apocalypse: I saw concepts translated into images, and I knew this man should be interviewed for my blog. Dear readers, here is Jim Tsinganos!

Tell us a few things about yourself.

I was raised in a small rural/industrial town about 250km north of Adelaide in South Australia. My parents were Greek migrants who had emigrated in the 50's and 60's.

From a very young age I knew with absolute certainty that I would leave and stretch my wings, for "Wanderlust" was strong within my heart. My name "Tsinganos", after all, is very similar to the greek word for gypsy. After graduating from design school, travel I did, and with a friend and $1500.00 in my pocket we set off around the world where I ended up working and living in Amsterdam on 2 separate occasions. I eventually returned to Australia and settled in Sydney. I instantly knew that I had found my home and within 3 months I met the woman that I would marry. Sixteen years and 3 children later we live on the water in the middle of the royal national park about 1 hour south of Sydney.

What are the major influences on your work?

Throughout college in the 80's it was illustrators like Brad Holland, Anita Kunz, Gary Kelly and Guy Billout. But also fine artists like Chagall, Modigliani, Hockney and Magritte.

Nowadays I very rarely refer to illustration, art books or websites alone for inspiration. I try to draw on all aspects of life as an inspiration, from music, film, dance, cinema, theatre, nature and literature. I try to keep myself open, an empty vessel for whatever life has to bring. How the sun plays on a cloud at a certain point in the day, the back spray from a wave, a lilting song line or a great bit of prose or poetry. I try to remember all these moments, store them in my "vault" and call on them when i need to. I also keep sketchbooks that I refer to often and I work in a studio that I share with 4 other wonderfully talented illustrators. Every day that I go into work I find inspiration.

What would you say is your strong point, that makes your work totally unique?

It's all about the idea for me. Once that gets me in then I concentrate on trying to convey that idea to the viewer via the technique in a way that will resonate, hopefully in an emotively charged way.

You have had some very famous clients so far. Do you have a favorite, among the projects you did for them?

I did a series of posters over 1 and 1/2 years for Opera Australia. That was a wonderful project as I had a lot of creative freedom at the outset and the exposure was terrific. I also did a pro bono piece celebrating Amnesty International's 40 year anniversary. I really enjoyed that, for the image, the client and the cause.

Do you have a favorite medium?

I used to work in pastels and watercolour but a few years ago I made the change to digital and now I do everything in photoshop. I never thought I would come to like it so much as I was a bit of a ludite for a while and I can't ever imagine going back to pastel. But never say never.

Do you have any free time? How do you spend it?

With 3 children (2 of them under 6) I have very little time to myself. Any time I have is spent entertaining them and making them laugh, although I still do manage to fit in a swim every now and again.

Today I have been lazy. I have been enjoying the pleasures of sitting in front of the fireplace, drinking tea, and crocheting a hat for myself. I haven't crocheted anything for a long time, and I felt like doing so a few days ago, when I went and bought myself some yarn. I took some pictures in the afternoon, but now it's dark I already have my hat on. Oh, it feels so good!

Surely you must have noticed by now that fashion this fall encompasses references to many different decades. Desingers use the opulence of the past, in oder to bring a sign of hope to the present, and so it is this opulence that 'unites' all these different eras into a trend that favours glamour, above everything else: Lace, feathers, brocade and wallpaper fabrics, bow details, lush jewels and fur, to name but just a few elements.

Today it was a nice, cold, dry Saturday. The sun was shining enough for me not to bear to stay inside, so I decided not to join my friends at the cafe. Of course I learnt afterwards that most of them went to gather olives anyway, as it's the time of year when olive oil is produced, but I, too, had the pleasure of touching a tree. And now that I am back, I would like to share with you images of the fruit I picked, which is often found in gardens throughout Greece.

Ziziphus zizyphus (from Greek ζίζυφον, zizyfon) commonly called jujube (sometimes jujuba), red date, Chinese date, Korean date, or Indian date is a species of Ziziphus, used primarily as a fruiting shade tree.

The neighbour who cultivates this tree in his garden was gathering the jujube fruit today, when he happened to see me and invited me over. We shook the tree carefully, having spread some old sheets beneath it, and so all the jujube that fell on the ground were ours!

These fruit are at their best when they are ripe and start to dry, while they are still on the tree. If you collect them at that point, you will enjoy them sweet, and you can even dry them further and keep them for about a year. They are date-like, but more interesting, so distinctly sweet and warm to the taste, and to me they are a sign that Christmas is near! What a blessing!

Tell us a few things about yourself.

My name is Marina. I live in a small town in Northern Greece. I have a wonderful daighter and a perfect husband. My job has nothing to do with painting nor art in general.

When did you start making dolls?

I am very 'fresh' in this area. I made my first doll only 7 months ago. It was a simple little doll for my daughter, nothing much. But I was instantly hooked, and haven't stopped since...

What are your favorite materials?

Well, linen of course! I handsew all my dolls from linen, and a large part of the clothes, too. I generally prefer natural fabrics, leathers and sheep's or goat's wool. I use artificial fabrics only if I can't find the natural that would do the job.

What are the things that inspire you to make a doll?

I find inspiration everywhere! People around me, paintings, photographs, films and especially nature. I can't get enough of natural beauty! Whenever we can, we go with my family to the forest and I come back with my head full of new ideas and my camera full of photographs!

What are you thinking when one of your dolls gets sold and leaves for another home?

I have mixed feelings. I am anxious because I want my doll to please the buyer and to get there safely, I am very happy that this particular one was chosen among so and so many dolls. And I am grateful from the bottom of my heart that a person appreciated my work, because every doll has a little piece of my soul in it. Every doll is the result of a week's efforts and countless experiments on the design.

'At 2:50 am on Sunday, 28 October 1940, General Ioannis Metaxas, Prime Minister of Greece, was awoken in his Athens home. At the door was the Italian Ambassador, Count Emmanuelle Grazzi, with a written ultimatum to the Greek government demanding that Italian forces be given free passage into Greece from Albania and that they be allowed to garrison certain unspecified "strategic points of Greek territory" [...]. If Greece refused to comply then resistance would be "broken by force of arms". A reply was demanded by 6.00 am, but Metaxas gave it at once — "Alors c'est la guerre" (well, this means War, in French). At 5.30 am Italian troops crossed the Greek–Albanian border and Greece was at war with Fascist Italy.' (Click here to see the source)

Greece eventually fell to urgently dispatched German forces during the Battle of Greece, but before that it managed to repel Italian forces into Albania, giving the Allies their first victory over Axis forces on land, and the peoples of Europe hope that a war cannot be lost before it is even fought. Historians believe that it was this complete Greek victory over the Italian invaders that caused Germans to postpone their attack against the USSR, as they had to deal with Greece first. This delay was fatal for Germany, as the winter in the Soviet Union proved to be too much for anyone to handle, even German troops, and this was the beginning of the end for the Nazis.

Hi people! Tomorrow is my name day. It is an Orthodox Christian custom to celebrate name days, and even today they are considered more important than birthdays. It means that the most important day of your life was not the day you were born, but the day you were given a Christian name, and became a 'soldier of Christ'. Very interestingly, Demi is a Greek name originating from the words 'Earth Mother', hence the goddess Demeter, goddess of the harvest, who presided over grains, the fertility of the earth, and the seasons. It is also a Christian name, because of St. Demetrios of Thessaloniki, a martyr of the early 4th century, an aristocrat and high rank officer of the Roman army, a military saint who was martyred very young because of his faith in Christ. He is considered a very important saint, equal to Saint George, and many people carry his name. In iconography he is often depicted on a red horse, just like St. George is seen on a white horse.

I love the fact that my name day is placed in the heart of autumn. I will be baking today, and will be using must and sultanas or apples and walnuts, I haven't decided yet which version for a cake I'm going to go for. Oh, and I made a sinful chocolate dessert with biscuits last night, that my mom calls 'salami mosaic', which is currently 'maturing' in the fridge -it is better eaten two days after you make it.

1. I love chocolate. Chocolate soaps, chocolate cereal, chocolate lip gloss, you get the picture.

2. Somehow I know my way around places. Where the church, the old market, the rich neighbourhood is, that kind of stuff.

3. I love horses. Sometimes I cry because they are so beautiful. When I lose my faith in humankind, I remind myself that these majestic creatures actually made their choice to be with humans, despite being so strong they could leave anytime they wanted to. This means we must be doing something right.

4. It has only been a few years since I learned how to ride a bike.

5. I must have been among the first kids that systematically shopped and wore vintage clothes, before vintage was even fashionable.

6. I still have a secret hiding place that I go to when I need to think. Of course, I'm not going to tell you where it is.

7. A friend just called to say she wants to bring a bag of accessories and jewelry she and her mum no longer want. Yay! I guess.

I am really proud of this! A bride can sure use a locket on her wedding day! This was a custom order, but I intend to make the design available for everyone within the next couple of days. And the price is 28.79 USD (that's around 22 euros).

Meanwhile, after I had started working on this necklace, I happened to be writing the Victorian Charm fashion trend report article for the EGST blog, which you can also read here in my personal blog. While looking for relevant runway photos -I like to select them one by one- I came across this:

Elle says that this necklace, from Dior, marries both Victorian worlds: London’s dark, dirty streets and the royal court’s pretty fashions. It is the Dior 'Poudree' large lace necklace, $3,100. Found at dior.com. Indeed it is gorgeous. But no mortal can pay that amount. Plus, I don't think it is that wearable. By mortal people, that is. Anyway, just thought I'd share it with you. Greek Cars and Seventies Cool

I found it hard to believe at first, but Greece actually produced cars in the past. One of them was the Enfield Neorion Ε8000, which was produced on the island of Syros, since the company was owned by the brothers Goulandris as of 1972. This type of car ran on batteries, but the price was high and it never got permission for production in Greece, which is why only a few cars were made, bought by the British Post.

I don't know why, but I feel strangely attracted to the design of this vehicle. Its compact shape, the colours I see in the pictures, its clean and honest look, even knowing that it was an electric car - all these facts make me long for the seventies, all of a sudden...

And when I think of the 1970s, a lot of things come to mind...

To understand this trend, and why suddenly all things old are cool, we need to think of how timeless the Victorian appeal is. Placing an emphasis on the waistline, incorporating peplums, shoes with lacing and high neck or pleated collars, flirting with solemn, mourning royal looks and colors or steampunk, using lace, leather and feathers, fashion designers drew inspiration from Queen Victoria, the monarch that reigned the longest in British history, and became a national icon.

And when she had grown up her father said: ’We will get her married.’ ’Yes,’ said the mother, ’if only someone would come who would have her.’ At length a man came from a distance and wooed her, who was called Hans; but he stipulated that Clever Elsie should be really smart. ’Oh,’ said the father, ’she has plenty of good sense’; and the mother said: ’Oh, she can see the wind coming up the street, and hear the flies coughing.’ ’Well,’ said Hans, ’if she is not really smart, I won’t have her.’ When they were sitting at dinner and had eaten, the mother said: ’Elsie, go into the cellar and fetch some beer.’ Then Clever Elsie took the pitcher from the wall, went into the cellar, and tapped the lid briskly as she went, so that the time might not appear long. When she was below she fetched herself a chair, and set it before the barrel so that she had no need to stoop, and did not hurt her back or do herself any unexpected injury. Then she placed the can before her, and turned the tap, and while the beer was running she would not let her eyes be idle, but looked up at the wall, and after much peering here and there, saw a pick-axe exactly above her, which the masons had accidentally left there.

Guardian of memories, by stephmel

The Twelve Lays of the Gypsy is perhaps the most important work of the Greek poet and literary critic Kostis Palamas (1859-1943). It was written in 1907, ten years after the 'Black 97', a very dark year in Greek history. In it, 'the Gypsy poet, an outcast possessed only of his vital language, wanders from creative tasks to love and to the death of gods and of the ancients, finally becoming a prophet and uniting at last science, nature, and man'.

In the poem's Canto VIII: Prophecy, a prophet foretells that there comes a time when Empires and countries are bound to fall from the peak they have reached to the lowest point imaginable, before they change and rise again. 'Thrice doomed', he says, referring to Byzantium with its corrupt leaders, 'Oh land of sinners!', 'no man will lean over you, to give you one last kiss before you die'.

These are indeed inglorious times for Greece. Whether my country will manage to leave its troubles behind, remains to be seen in the future.

I love the Victorian and the rocker trend this season! I had saved this piece of fabric with black rhinestones embroidered on it for when the inspiration would be right, and a few days ago, eureka! I combined it with a grey leather part from an old handbag which had not been used at all, and connected the ends with chain. The cuff fastens with two magnetic clasps, if you pull the chains enough for the magnets to come close. I have to say, it is one of my favorite creations, and it's one of a kind!

Modern designers are inspired by traditional costumes and incorporate elements of those into their collections, at the same time presenting something new, which speaks to the people of our time.

Here we will present some cases of modern fashion design inspired by the Greek traditional costume. Αs the Beyond Dress Codes exhibition showed, clothes tell a lot about a country’s history, customs and traditions, as well as its social and economic circumstances. At the same time, they convey a wealth of information about the gender, age, social status, personal situation, even the personality of the person wearing them. Modern designers are getting inspired by traditional costumes, and this is so much more than a trend. Ιt's a call for everyone to rediscover, redefine and embrace who we are.

Εδώ θα παρουσιάσουμε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις στις οποίες η σύγχρονη μόδα εμπνέεται από την Ελληνική παραδοσιακή φορεσιά. Όπως έδειξε η έκθεση Beyond Dress Codes, τα παραδοσιακά ρούχα λένε πολλά για την ιστορία, τα έθιμα και τις παραδόσεις μιας χώρας, όπως επίσης και για τις κοινωνικοοικονομικές της συνθήκες. Ταυτόχρονα, είναι φορείς πλήθους πληροφοριών σχετικά με το φύλο, την ηλικία, την κοινωνική θέση, την προσωπική ζωή, ακόμη και την προσωπικότητα εκείνου που τα φοράει. After all, both as an art form and a necessity, fashion actually builds on tradition to create the next new trends. It is only by using pre-existing knowledge in a creative and inspired way, that progress is possible. Nothing comes from nothing, and no matter how original designers may be, they always need a starting point. If this starting point is the Greek traditional costume, then this is making us really proud and, more importantly, helps us connect with our past, at the same time encouraging us to work for a better future.

Starting with the Jean Paul Gaultier Fall RTW 2010 collection, the influence of the traditional Greek costumes is particularly obvious. Gaultier presented clothes that are clearly addressed to the woman of today, in which he incorporated elements of Greek tradition; and he seemed to have studied the clothes of that tradition extremely well, but he went on to create wonderfully contemporary designs.

Ξεκινώντας με τη φθινοπωρινή συλλογή 2010 του Ζαν Πωλ Γκοτιέ, η επίδραση των παραδοσιακών Ελληνικών στολών είναι ιδιαίτερα εμφανής. Ο Γκοτιέ παρουσίασε ρούχα που απευθύνονται ξεκάθαρα στη σύγχρονη γυναίκα, στα οποία ενσωμάτωσε στοιχεία της Ελληνικής παράδοσης. Και φαίνεται πως μελέτησε τα ρούχα αυτής της παράδοσης πολύ καλά, όμως προχώρησε στη δημιουργία υπέροχων, σύγχρονων σχεδίων.

Next we are moving to John Galliano, who presented very theatrical clothes for his Fall 2009 collection, drawing inspiration from Russia and the Balkans, so his clothes incorporate elements from the costumes of Northern Greece.

Στη συνέχεια ερχόμαστε στον Τζον Γκαλιάνο, ο οποίος παρουσίασε πολύ θεατρικά ρούχα στη χειμερινή κολεξιόν του 2009, αντλώντας έμπνευση από τη Ρωσία και τα Βαλκάνια, και οι δημιουργίες του ενσωματώνουν στοιχεία από τις στολές της Βόρειας Ελλάδας.

John Galliano

Some of the fashion critics wrote that Galliano's runway show was perfect in every aspect, but it had little, if anything, to do with fashion trends. We shouldn't forget, however, that it takes a very wide understanding of clothes history and knowledge of fashion, for critics to be able to judge. In 2011, two years later, we can say that we saw signs of what are huge trends now, as we speak, in that Galliano show. So strong is the inspiration that some designers have, that they actually set trends, instead of following them. Regardless of John Galliano's personal troubles, he is without doubt one of the most brilliant fashion designers of his generation.

Μερικοί κριτικοί μόδας έγραψαν τότε ότι η επίδειξη του Γκαλιάνο ήταν μεν τέλεια από κάθε άποψη σαν παρουσίαση, αλλά είχε ελάχιστα έως καθόλου στοιχεία μόδας και τάσεων. Δεν θα έπρεπε όμως να ξεχνάμε ότι χρειάζεται πολύ ευρεία αντίληψη της ιστορίας του ενδύματος και γνώση της μόδας, για να μπορούν οι κριτικοί να είναι ικανοί να κρίνουν. Το 2011, δυο μόλις χρόνια αργότερα, γνωρίζουμε ότι είδαμε σημάδια των πιο μεγάλων τάσεων αυτή τη στιγμή που μιλάμε, σε εκείνο το σόου του Γκαλιάνο. Τόσο δυνατή είναι η έμπνευση που έχουν ορισμένοι σχεδιαστές, ώστε πράγματι να δημιουργούν τις τάσεις, αντί να τις ακολουθούν. Ανεξάρτητα από τους προσωπικούς του μπελάδες, ο Τζον Γκαλιάνο είναι χωρίς αμφιβολία ένας από τους ευφυέστερους σχεδιαστές μόδας της γενιάς του.

Finally, there are of course Greek designers that are influenced by the Greek traditional costumes, even though this influence is often exhibited in a less theatrical way. Working with one's own tradition can be trickier than working with other cultural influences, and it can easily interrupt one's creativity because it is too familiar. This is the reason Greek designers are careful not to produce clothes that look too much like costumes. In their creations you can see pleats, tassels, patterns and textures that are 'quiet' evidence of a rich tradition in clothes!

Τέλος, υπάρχουν φυσικά Έλληνες σχεδιαστές που είναι επηρεασμένοι από τις Ελληνικές παραδοσιακές στολές, αν και όπως παρατηρούμε, πιο συγκρατημένα και με όχι και τόσο θεατρικό τρόπο. Το να δουλεύει κανείς με τη δική του παράδοση μπορεί να είναι δυσκολότερο και πιο περίπλοκο από το να δουλεύει με άλλες πολιτιστικές επιρροές, και μπορεί εύκολα να ανακόψει τη δημιουργικότητά του ακριβώς διότι είναι πάρα πολύ γνώριμο. Αυτός είναι και ο λόγος που οι Έλληνες σχεδιαστές είναι πολύ προσεκτικοί, έτσι ώστε να μην παράγουν ρούχα που να μοιάζουν υπερβολικά με πραγματικές στολές. Στις δημιουργίες τους μπορείτε να δείτε πιέτες, φουντίτσες, υφές και επαναλαμβανόμενα μοτίβα που αποτελούν 'ήσυχες' ενδείξεις μιας πλούσιας παράδοσης σε ρούχα!

Hansel and Gretel

In its original form, 'Hansel and Gretel' is a German fairy tale, recorded by the Brothers Grimm. Hansel and Gretel are a young brother and sister, who are left by their father and his second wife alone in the forest, to die. When the children reach a house constructed of cake and confectionery, they are threatened by the cannibalistic witch who lives there, deep in the forest, but they manage to save their lives by outwitting her. The tale has been adapted to various media, and you can even find different versions of it.

Tonight I wanted to share with you an animation film by Gianna Ruggiero, inspired by the 'Hansel and Gretel' story, but clearly not the classic fairy tale. It was produced at the Ringling College of Art and Design, where I think some of the best animation films around are made! If you want to visit Gianna's blog, it is here.

I feel I can identify with this fairy tale at the moment. You may have heard that a lot of people in Europe and the rest of the world would like to let Greece default, you may even be one of them. Nobody will blame you for thinking so, in fact there are some people in Greece who, paradoxically, believe it would actually do us good to default in the long run. A lot of Greeks are leaving for other countries (and better lives) at the moment, where working will actually bring them a stable future. I feel hurt for so many reasons already, but I identified with this fairy tale because I think our European neighbours are like the father and his bad wife, talking about leaving us in the forest to die. I can't help feeling like that, it's just how gloomy things are right now. Thanks, Gigi, for the lovely film. We don't know each other, but I wanted to say your film made me feel better. Hope we can be Facebook friends, too.

Metal Buttons and Chains

I really don't know what to call this bracelet. It is one of the most beautiful pieces I have made! I'm so excited...

I used vintage metal buttons and new and old pieces of chain, together with old findings and some raw brass wire. I was inspired by traditional Greek costume jewelry, only instead of coins I used vintage metal buttons that feature decorative motifs and patterns, military themes (a crest), nautical themes (an anchor, a ship), even goddess Athena (on a 1937 penny button) and the Versace logo (with the Medusa encircled by the Greek key). I think it looks superb! And it's one of a kind.

It was a nice, breezy August evening at Olympia last Friday... Everything looked like me and my two friends were going to have a truly great time at the Pyx Lax Reunion Concert.

The theatre, built in the ancient Greek amphitheatre style, was packed with people of all ages.

There wasn't a single person who didn't sing to Pyx Lax songs that night...

Soon the atmosphere was loaded with emotion...

...and when the deceased member Manos Xydous appeared on a clip, singing 'Esy Ekei', it sent shivers down our spine...

For this pair I used a couple of old bracelet connectors and pieces of black chain. It is a one of a kind item. And I think it suits the new AW11-12 fashion trends perfectly! There's this fluidity of the chain, there's the length of the earrings (which is not overwhelming though), there's the black and the silver colour which create just the perfect contrast, there's the simplicity, the darkness, the 'kinkiness' or 'bondage' of the interlinked rings and the geometry that will be seen ALOT this coming season. Things have definitely been wrong these past few days. The massacre in Norway, I mean. Plus, the death of Amy Winehouse at 27 caused worldwide grief. I couldn't sleep at night this last weekend, so I chose to prepare a blog post with some hope in it.

The Double Ring of Fall

I had this urge to make a double ring, to see how it would turn out, and you know what? It is really comfortable! I also wanted to combine beads and make moveable beads - charms on my ring, like a variation of the traditional cha cha, but I disliked the idea of so many beads hanging from one ring only. I have worn such rings in the past, and they tend to become rather tiring on your finger after a while. With this double ring, apart from being tremendously fashionable, you also get to be very comfortable, because the tension of one ring is actually divided between the two. And as the rings are adjustable in size, we are talking about real comfort! Plus this design looks so lush on your hand, it's a dream!

For this, I combined black lava with green aventurine and amethyst colored glass beads, and I also liked a little copper dragonfly with the whole bunch, to give it a bit of a fairy touch! I can see these on the fingers of bridesmaids... With a nice dress... Or you could wear to that beach party... It really gives instant character!

What intrigued me about these in the first place has to do with the possibilities of the frame in itself as an element, instead of the frame showing something else. Interior design has been using empty frames for years, as a decorative element or with some practical aspect as well. When I found some real dollhouse frames, I knew what I wanted to make... And, by the way, I think these designs blend so well with the current fashion trends! Long and substantial, these are statement and conversation pieces, without being too loaded. Perfect!

But really, this post is asking for your feedback... I mean, I made those necklaces, they are my babies, of course I love them... But what do you think? Would you buy them? Or something similar? Let me know!

Have you received formal education in Art?

I studied art at the fashion Institute of Technology for 7years in NYC. But I started doodling art when I was 5
years old. My mother knew I was born with the gift because it was all I wanted to do all day every day.

What are the major influences on your work, and how would you describe your style?

Children, the emotions, human nature and animals are my influences. The style of my work varies really. It depends on the emotions in that given moment. My style is a whimsy reality distortion of imperfections. To me, is beautiful to be able to look at something to appreciate and see beauty in a flaw. I'm inspired by the complexity of human nature. I turn day dreams and nightmares creatively into abstract pieces that are whimsically lucid and at times not so lucid. People are known to be most complicated creatures and their behavior overwhelm and intrigue me. I carefully note each of their imperfections and hidden secrets they unknowingly display in their actions. Children are my best subject. They are like fireflies illuminating love, joy and innocence that some of us have lost or afraid to embrace. I visit the child within that inspires me to create daily.

How do you choose the colors for your art?

I choose my colors by the definition of play - Fun and whimsical!

Would you say your art is affordable? Is that important to you?

In the economy that we live today, it is difficult to buy a piece that is $2000 dollars. So yes my work is affordable. Not everyone has that kind of money to spend. I do small piece that people can afford and other large pieces as well. It's just the way it is right now.

Could you tell us a few things about your creative process?

The creative process - When I was a child, I pictured the real world as a circus. It was the only way to cope with the ugly reality I saw around me. Transforming ugliness into beauty. I realized within the ugliness of things lay an underlying charm I accepted because it was real and true. Life as I saw it became my play ground taking bits and pieces of it and turning them into pieces of art. I'm in love with capacity of knowing that I can feel everything even when it isn't pretty. I don't restrict myself creatively. I absorb it, channel what ever might be hidden and throw it up as soon as I'm ready. The idea of perfection in a piece of art does not appeal to me. But, the imperfection that my art conveys does. I like my art the way it comes to me. My paintings convey emotion.

With all things happening lately, I find myself charmed by skulls a lot... To entertain my fears and feel better, I turned to the Day of the Dead holiday, because I think it illustrates the idea of death and rebirth so wonderfully... Inspired by this idea of death and rebirth, I created a necklace with a white flower and an amethyst bead...

Also, the skull is genuine carved ox bone, so the whole design feels very natural and organic. I love it!
