Gatsby girl

So I haven't blogged for a while, even though I have so much to blog about... First of all, I have to say I loved the Great Gatsby film, and it gave me the little push I needed to finally create some pearl pieces... Glad to say they have already proven to be a hit in my Etsy shop. The quote is the last line from Fitzgerald's book...

This piece was done with real ivory freshwater potato pearls, so sweet and decadent... The wire wrapping alone was so charming!!!

And this is a simpler piece, done with an acrylic pearl at the bottom... Simpler means more versatile! And less pricey, too ;)

What do you think? I always love to get feedback! And I promise to blog again soon, as I have more things I want to show you... ;)

xx

Greek Fashion Designers on Etsy: NorTin

Nora Zachariou and Tina Athanasakou are very passionate about shoes. They actually speak shoes fluently. So fluently that when I first 'met' them through their blog, one of the very few blogs that I look forward to reading, I knew these two had the perfect combination of talent and hard work. Tina and Nora studied the art of shoemaking at ELKEDE Center of Technology and Design in Athens, Greece, to become 'professional lovers and makers of shoes', as they state in their official website. And it is really obvious how much they love shoes! NorTin shoes are 100% handmade using the finest materials and leathers. Each pair of shoes is made separately, first sketched, designed and then created by hand, making sure they cannot be found anywhere else in the world!

I guess one of the reasons I adore NorTin shoes is because I love fairytales. I know I can be a queen in these:

Φαντάζομαι ότι ένας από τους λόγους που λατρεύω τα παπούτσια NorTin είναι επειδή αγαπώ τα παραμύθια. Ξέρω ότι μπορώ να είμαι μια βασίλισσα με αυτά:

Or a mermaid in these:

Ή, μια γοργόνα με αυτά:

I know I am a star:

Ξέρω ότι είμαι ένα αστέρι:

And I most definitely know I can be drop dead gorgeous if I want to:

Και σίγουρα ξέρω ότι μπορώ να καταπλήξω αν το θέλω:

I can be a wild cat all day long:

Μπορώ να είμαι μια αγριόγατα όλη μέρα:

My spirit is definitely wild and free:

Το πνεύμα μου είναι σίγουρα άγριο και ελεύθερο:

And in this tough world, I am still romantic:

Και μέσα σε αυτόν το σκληρό κόσμο, εγώ είμαι ακόμη ρομαντική:

I am just me. NorTin shoes are just me. Perhaps you also see yourself in them. Go check.

Visiting Lambeia

Lampeia (or Divri) is a beautiful traditional village οf mountainous Ileia, in the Peloponnese. So me and my guy took advantage of the lovely weather today and went for a visit.

On our way there, I took a nice shot of this very pretty tree (all of my photos are copyrighted - please link back to my blog if you decide to use any of them):

These are a few photos from the oak forest of Foloi, that I took not far from the road:

Lampeia (or Divri) consists of seven 'mahalades', or neighbourhoods, as it is built amphitheatrically to the south of Mount Erymanthos. It has many freshwater springs, beautiful, old, stone built houses and historical churches.

This is a glass of lovely, fresh, mountain spring water - perfect for this warm and sunny day:

Oh, and the perfect Greek coffee to go with it. I couldn't have made it any better myself at home, and I am very fussy about how I want my Greek coffee:

Too bad I can't take you there so you can actually listen to the birds singing and the water flowing wildly... But I can show you some of my pictures that will give you an idea.

I thought this cat, sitting at the top of some narrow steps in between two village houses, was really awesome... It even turned around for me to take a nice shot! Too cute!!! This is for you, cat lovers:

Finally, we were lucky enough to find a nice lady who opened the church yard door for us, as she keeps the keys, and let us in this marvellous old church of the Holy Trinity. It's REALLY old, the villagers said 9th century, one even said 6th century.

When I visited this website here, it says the church probably originates from the 14th century, but they still don't know for sure, because it has very peculiar architecture and it hasn't been studied properly. This site here says it's 12th century, with much earlier signs. But still, the church needs to be studied. I managed to take some amazing photos without any flash. I am proud of my photographs today... And happy I can share them with you.

These are the Apostles Peter and Paul, in the most well-known Orthodox Christian depiction of them together, as brothers in Christ.

This is St. Nicholas.

And this, the Holy Trinity - the lady told us there is a liturgy in the church on the feast of the Holy Trinity:

Finally, one more photo from inside the church:

And one last, from the outside:

Oh yes. I certainly think today was not a day wasted. Hope you had a great Sunday as well!

The Athena Andreadis - Peeling Apples Inspired Collection: Peeling Apples

Peeling Apples is the title of Athena Andreadis' new album. It is also the title of a song from that album, which I really love. The music is really sensual, and so is Athena's voice, and let's not forget the poetry - lyrics... I created the following piece as a result. It is a locket necklace, in the shape of an apple, complemented by a bright orange red czech glass bead charm that can be attached whenever and wherever one wants to, or hidden inside the locket. When I see this piece, I think of temptation... Who can resist?

To see the rest of the collection, click here. To read more about my Athena Andreadis - Peeling Apples inspired collection, click here. And this is the song by the lovely, London-born songstress, Athena Andreadis:

Interview with Artists I Admire: Apostolos K. Tsoris

I cannot tell you what joy it gives me to present to you artists, whose work I love! This post is about Apostolos Tsoris, I'm sure you are going to love his work too!

Tell us a few things about yourself.

I was born in Agrinio, Greece, in 1946, but I live and work in New York, full time, on art, since 1998.

What are your favorite themes? Where do you find inspiration?

The major influences on my work are mother nature's bounty in birds that fly across the seaside, the mystical fantasies of the Mermaid, the hypnotic fragrance of flowers in bloom, the colors of the sunset and varied expressions of human faces. My nostalgia for life in my beloved Greece gives me themes that I express in realism and the freedom of my fantasy in surrealistic ways. In addition, since I came to the United States, Soul, Blues and the tropical themes became some of my favorites!

Do you have any free time? How do you spend it?

My time is always free and I pass it in the company of my wife, Barbara, my muse.

Thank you, Apostolos, for your time! I hope you are as fond of Apostolos Tsoris' work as I am! You can find him in three shops on Etsy: ApostolosTsoris, apostolostsoris1 and soulandblues.

Women's Day

Today is International Women's Day. Instead of anything else, I am giving you these links and pictures as food for thought...

Well, ladies, are you doing anything special on this day, to celebrate? I went to the theatre last night with three of my friends, girls only, to watch a lovely performance of Lysistrata and then we sat in a beer restaurant to have a bite and catch up. Watching a play by Aristophanes really is liberating. Kisses!

After all the awards she received this month, Adele is officially the hottest singer out there at the moment. And I just wanted to say I am so happy about that. I love Adele's looks, personality, her songs and her voice, and this post is dedicated to her, with my top 3 Etsy Adele art pieces.

Bravo, Adele!

Holy Epiphany and My Rain In Pink Dream Mosaic

Today is Holy Epiphany, a Christian holiday and a public holiday in Greece. It is also an incredibly windy and wet day. I don't know about you, but this wind drives me crazy!

So to entertain myself, I found some lovely rain related items on Etsy. What do you think?
